Statistics majors become statisticians; Mathematics students are future mathematicians. What about an Informatics student? Is there such thing as an informatician? The questions you ask yourself when you have a degree that your computer thinks is a spelling error...
Figuring out what I wanted to do with my degree in Social Computing Informatics was a great challenge for me upon graduating college. I could hardly define what it was, much less what career I wanted to pursue with it. During that first post-grad year, I often felt lost and considered returning to college to study something else. However, after a lot of thought and research, I finally found my perfect career path!
Digital media marketing brings together everything I look for in a career. I enjoy the mix of creativity and analysis involved with creating content and calculating how well it's working. I also like how hands-on it can be (e.g. engaging directly with consumers, attending events to record video and take photos). These are among several reasons I'm itching to start a career in digital media advertising.
Lately, I've been tirelessly learning new skills and studying techniques in order to become the best there is at what I do. (I tend to take the Ash Ketchum approach to life: "I want to be the very best that no one ever was.") I recently finished a course on search engine optimization and became Google Adwords Certified. I've also been enjoying studying social media marketing practices and digital media campaigns - learning what-to-do versus what-not-to-do.
